Do not act like strangers! The flash in her head reminded with enough of a whammy to cause Buffy to screw her eyes shut tight and involuntary drop both the bouquet of flowers and Peter's hand in effort to grip the sides of her temple and fight off the excruciating pain. Man did she get the memo this time.

Except her hands were intercepted with Peter's own. Normally she would have pulled back but given their situation it was exactly what she needed. There wasn't a part of her that minded the gentle gesture. Cool fingers calmed her nerves and his words soft yet reaffirming.

"I have no idea how I forgot. How could I?" She nodded going along with it despite her voice being low with a slight tremble to it. "You were wearing that adorable t-shirt. The one with the science joke I didn't get." A pause as she considered her next words and took a deep breath. "The one I don't get even now and after all the times you've explained it me so far." The tension in her body eased as the pain slowly subsided, her hands coming to rest over Peter's in wanting to keep his hands against her face a little longer. Part for the comfort and part because it gave her something good to focus on; him. "It was great. Perfect almost. If not for the fact there were so many people around." Buffy smiled, chancing an eye open. "Did I ever tell you I'd been wanting you to kiss me for a long time leading up to it?" This was okay, now. She was okay. And Peter? Perfect fake boyfriend. "I really am the luckiest girl to have snagged such an amazing boyfriend." Both in false memory and here. Anyone else she was certain might have gone along to a point, pretending to care for the sake of the role only. Yet Peter seemed to genuinely care.
