Sold in shops? Her nose wrinkles in distaste, a subtly human gesture betraying her origins. Catherine has no empathy for unfeeling robots, but as an engineer who's devoted her life's work to developing advanced A.I. and simulated environments for them to inhabit, treating them as subhuman is strongly distasteful. She was one of the most knowledgeable scientists working on the problem before the comet hit, though, and it had never reached anywhere near this stage of mass marketing that he's mentioning.

"Oh, alright." Usually Catherine's quite goal-oriented, but with her major goal of launching the ARK complete, she's prone to being easily distracted by intellectual questions. It doesn't matter to her too much if she dies here. She'd like to save people if she can, and herself, but the fact is that she's the fourth Catherine in existence, and mortality sort of loses its shine at that point.

"Sounds like if you're revising your own programming, there's no argument about you being sentient," she goes on, ruthlessly direct as usual, and resumes walking. "So, good for you! You'll probably be very useful in this sort of environment. I'm an intelligent systems engineer, so given the limited capabilities I've seen around here, the only system I'm likely to be working on is myself." She sounds a bit dour, but not in a truly discouraged sort of way. Catherine is just about a boundless source of cheerful forward momentum.
